Grain-painted and Gilt Stencil-decorated Wooden Works Tall Clock, dial lettered "J. Curtis, Cairo.," New York, early 19th century, the hood with applied cresting joining turned finials above a glazed tombstone opening flanked by swelled columns, and white-painted and polychrome dial with flowers in the arch and spandrels and lettered with the maker's name, on waist with rectangular door and base with cutout skirt, (imperfections), ht. with center finial 86 3/4 in. Note: This clock carries marks and signatures of at least 4 artisans, some known and others not. Besides the clockmakers name on the dial, the inside of the waist door is signed "Abrm [Abraham] Cole" [father and business partner of the more well known decorative painter Rufus Cole], the initials JGR appear on the upper backboard behind the movement, the back is signed "J.G. Runkle/ Cobbleskill/ NY," and the side of the movement's seatboard is marked "GP" with a stamp. Estimate $1,500-2,500 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
