McNutt, Paul V. (1891-1955) Photo Archive. A large collection of approximately seventy-eight photographs of McNutt as a young man, soldier, and in various capacities of his professional career, including three photographs with Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one with Eleanor Roosevelt, one with Elvis Presley, and many others taken at official events, dinners, and other diplomatic, political, and celebratory occasions. Paul V. McNutt came very close to becoming an American President; he served as a Colonel in World War I, and later went on to become the Governor of Indiana. An old slight against FDR lost him the Vice Presidential spot on the Democratic ticket in 1936, but upon his reelection, Roosevelt named McNutt High Commissioner to the Philippines in 1937.
