Large quarto, illustrated with color plates tipped onto dark brown sheets, and black-and-white text illustrations, bound in full green morocco, tooled elegantly in gold, featuring an inset panel on the front board, an original drawing under a sheet of translucent vellum as invented by Chivers, bookbinder of Bath; the illustration showing a Franciscan monk poring over a large tome, with several others piled up at his feet, crowned by a trefoil arched window with abalone inset corner-pieces, showing a crow in the center holding a gold ring, with gilt highlights on one of the bindings at the monk's feet, small marginal chips to the vellucent panel; spine somewhat sun faded, t.e.g., 9 3/4 x 7 1/2 in.
