Pair of Carved Walnut Side Chairs, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1760, the serpentine beaded crests with scrolled terminals centering a shell and scrolled details, above elaborately shaped splats and trapezoidal slip seats with shaped rails joining the frontal cabriole legs with shell-carved knees and claw-and-ball feet to the rounded rear legs, old refinish, ht. 40, seat ht. 17 3/4 in. Provenance: Campbell House Antiques, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, 1990. Estimate $7,000-9,000 one seat frame repaired, one knee return replaced, old (now loosening) repair to one chair where seat frame meets stile.
