Astronaut Scott Carpenter, wearing a Mercury pressure suit, was the pilot of the Mercury-Atlas 7 (MA-7) mission. Carpenter made America's second manned Earth-orbital spaceflight on May 24, 1962. This photograph was taken at Cape Canaveral, Florida, during MA-7 preflight training activities.
