Neil Armstrong (American, 1930-2012) Buzz Aldrin salutes the American flag, Apollo 11, July 1969. Vintage chromogenic print on fiber-based Kodak paper with 'A Kodak Paper' watermark on the verso, image size 9 5/8 x 7 1/2 in. (24.3 x 18.9 cm), unmatted. Condition: Good. N.B. Aldrin is saluting the flag with his right hand clearly visible next to his helmet. 'Being able to salute the flag was one of the more humble yet proud experiences I've ever had,' he remembered. 'To be able to look at that American flag and know how much so many people had put of themselves and their work into getting it where it was. We sensed, we really did, this almost mystical unification of all the people in the world at that moment' (Life, August 22, 1969, p. 26). The NASA negative number is AS11-40-5874.
