Harrison Schmitt (American, b. 1935) Eugene Cernan parks the Lunar Rover by the Lunar Module Challenger, the South Massif beyond, EVA 1, Apollo 17, December 1972. NASA Goddard caption on the verso. Vintage chromogenic print on resin-coated Kodak paper with 'A Kodak Paper' watermark on the verso, image size 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (18.9 x 24.0 cm), unmatted. Condition: Good. N.B. 'Shortly after deployment," Cernan "drove the LRV through a series of maneuvers to check out the performance of the vehicle. The LRV was then loaded with tools, experiment hardware, a TV camera, and antennas. South Massif, the crest of which is 2500 m above the valley floor, forms the skyline 5 km behind the LM. The bands of dark gray are LRV tracks; bootprints in the lunar surface are visible near the right margin of the photograph' (NASA SP-330, p. 4.13). The NASA negative number is AS17-147-22527.
