Williams Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword, 98th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, c. 1862, gilt-brass hilt with wire-wrapped shagreen grip, etched blade with foliate designs and panoply of arms, marked "Kingenthal" on the spine of the blade, brown-painted steel scabbard with brass fittings, engraved on the throat "To Lieut/G.N. Williams/From the Citizens/of Canadaigua/Jan. 12th, 1862.," blade lg. 30 1/2, overall lg. 38 1/4 in. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Note: Williams served in the 98th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Estimate $2,000-2,500 The upper carrying ring is missing as is the small brass screw to hold on the drag, overall very good condition.
