Grand Army of the Republic 28th National Encampment Medal and Case, c. 1894, bronze top banner with marching soldiers and two shaking hands, a suspended keystone, American flag ribbon with yellow borders and a shield-shaped bronze medal marked "28TH NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT G.A.R./SEPT. 1894/THE SEAL OF THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH," marked on the reverse "HISTORICAL RECORD/OF OLD/CITY HALL/1861-1865," with a history of the cannon from which the medals were cast, and a red velvet-lined painted-brass case with an engraved steel cover, ht. 4 1/2 in. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Estimate $200-300 In very good condition with bright bronze, some light staining on the case cover.
