Cased Mexican War Silver Palmetto Guards Medal, c. 1850, silver medal with South Carolina motto, engraved for presentation to H.W. Bamburg, face marked "VERA CRUS CONTRERAS CHURUBUSCO CHAPULTEPEC GARITA DE BELEN" with soldiers fighting and one carrying a South Carolina flag, gutta percha case with crossed cannon, guidons, and a liberty cap, lined in maroon velvet and fitted to the medal. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Note: Henry W. Bamburg enlisted in Company K of the Palmetto Regiment South Carolina Volunteers in 1846 and served until 1848. Estimate $1,000-1,500 In very good condition with a few light nicks around the edge, case is in excellent condition.
