Department of the Gulf and Silver Surrender of Port Hudson Medals, c. 1863, brass XIX corps badge marked "50th REGt/M.V.M./3/BRIG/!/DIV/19/ARMY CORPS" with a red circle in the center for the first division, tab at the top marked "DEP'T OF THE GULF," and a cased silver medallion marked on the obverse "at surrender of Port Hudson/July 8th 1863," with an eagle on a shield and a sunburst; the reverse marked "William C. Eustis/Co E 50th Regt/M.V.M./South Reading/Mass/sep 19 1862," with a red, white, and blue ribbon, in a leather-bound pasteboard box lined with red velvet and white silk. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Estimate $400-600 Both medals in very good condition, some wear on the ribbon, and the box is in good condition.
