Silver "Honor to the Brave" Medal Presented by Brooklyn, New York, c. 1865, silver bar with enameled "IN MEMORIUM," a flag ribbon, and a silver medal marked on the obverse "HONOR TO THE BRAVE/ILLUSTRIOUS DEEDS A NATIONS PRIDE" around an eagle attacking a snake, marked on the obverse "FROM THE WAR FUND COMMITTEE OF BROOKLYN NEW-YORK/1863" and engraved in a circle of laurels "Presented to the/139th N.Y.S. VOLS/for gallant and/meritorious services/during the/War of the Rebellion/from/Sep 9 1862 to June 19 1865," ht. 4 1/4 in. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio.
