English, early 19th century. A Staffordshire "Sancho Panza and the Dutchess" large transferware platter, circa 1830s, depicting a scene from Cervantes' 17th century novel "Don Quixote de la Mancha" with Sancho Panza, Don Quixotes' squire, kneeling beside the Duchess's horse within a landscape, with floral and beaded patterns lining the rim of the platter. Blue underglaze inscription to underside of platter "Sanch Panza and the Dutchess" and an impressed "18". Approximately 14 7/8" x 18 5/8".
