Johann Springer Double-barrel Percussion Shotgun, c. 1862, 12 gauge, walnut stock with checkered wrist and forend, butt carved with foliate designs, brass disc on the left side of the butt reads "D. Sargent/Roanoke Island/Feb. 8, 1862," locks have gold inlay and marked on the right "Springer" and on the left "in Wien," engraved with foliate designs, dogs, and faces, barrel has gold inlay and marked "Johann Springer in Wien.," barrel lg. 28 3/4, overall lg. 44 1/2 in. Provenance: The estate of Elaine Sargent. Note: Lt. Daniel Sargent was a member of the 24th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment. Estimate $2,000-4,000 Stock has a few light dings and nicks but in overall very good condition, the lock functions properly.
