Upper Great Lakes Beaded "Octopus" Bag, mid to late 19th century, black or dark indigo blue stroud cloth bag with polished cotton interior lining, smaller white beads outline the entire edge front and back, front beaded in a multicolored floral pattern over most of the surface, the back is also beaded in floral pattern with three insects at the lower left, with four tabs on both sides, originally four tassels per tab, 16 x 8 in. Estimate $3,500-4,500 Very minor moth damage on front of bag in the upper center of the stroud cloth, near beaded edge, very minor moth damage on back slightly above the center of the bag; one double beaded tassel is detached but still present with the bag, four others are missing. Three of the double beaded tassels show a loss of beadwork and yarn fringe. Some bead loss in the white beaded edging.
