Militia Shako and Accessories, c. 1840s, a black-japanned militia shako with silver-plated fittings, paper label inside the crown marked "JOSEPH. T. BELL/NEW YORK," with a pasteboard wallpaper-covered box marked "JOSEPH. T. BELL/MANUFACTURER/186 FULTON STREET N.Y.," two silver-plated plume flutes with eagles and stars, a white cotton belt with a silver-plated buckle with an eagle, a pair of blue broadcloth epaulets with gold fringe and a silver eagle on one, and a black-japanned cartridge box. Estimate $800-1,200 Shako plate is missing one attachment wire and has some cracking of the finish, liner is intact, pasteboard box has some wear but is intact, and the cartridge box has paper stuck to the flap.
