Identified Atlanta-capture Binoculars, c. 1864, brass body with ivory, carved on one side with guidons marked "2," and crossed sabers with a "2," opposite side marked "Presented to/Major J. Gray/2ND U.S. Cavy/By/Capt. N. Dill" and "A souvenier/of the night/we torched/Atlanta/July/1864," with a leather case, ht. 3, wd. 4 1/2 in. Provenance: The collection of Nicholas A. Penachio. Estimate $800-1,200 Working condition but cloudy, ivory has some cracking.
