Matthaeus Greuter Celestial Table Globe, Rome, c. 1636, made up of twelve copper-engraved paper gores, two polar calottes, all laid down on the 10-in. plaster covered wooden sphere, cartouche reading in Italian, engraved brass meridian ring divided in four quadrants, horizon parchment plate with degree scales, and signs of the Zodiac, mounted to the quarter-sawn oak panel with delicate beaded outer edge, housed in a wooden base with four turned legs with fretwork stretchers and center column. Note: Cartography based on the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe observations.
