Signed and dated "Powell 1848" l.l., sitter identified on fragmentary label from the Museum of the City of New York affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 17 x 13 3/4 in. (oval format), framed. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, varnish inconsistencies, craquelure. Provenance: Skinner, Inc., October 24, 1999, Sale 1953, Lot 4.
