Charles William Hudson (American, 1871-1943) Oak Tree, Misty Day. Signed "Hudson" l.l., titled, signed, and dated ".../by Charles W. Hudson/1914" and similarly inscribed but dated "...1915" on the reverse, identified on two exhibition labels (see below) affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 44 1/2 x 64 1/8 in., in a period frame. Condition: Minor surface grime, slightly slack on stretcher. Exhibitions: Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, 1915; submitted to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, One Hundred and Twelfth Annual Exhibition, February 4-March 25, 1917. Estimate $2,000-3,000 The canvas is inscribed on the back with the name of the framer, which appears to read "Frame by C.W. Andson."
