Carved Mahogany Side Chair, New York, c. 1765-75, with serpentine leaf-carved crest rail and scrolled terminals above a pierced ribbon- and leaf-carved splat, with slip seat on frontal cabriole legs ending in claw-and-ball feet, joined to raking rear legs by a skirt with gadrooned molding, ht. 37 3/4, seat ht. 17 in. Estimate $2,000-3,000 There is a patch on the outside of each stile about half way between the crest and seat, filled holes in the sides near the front legs, crack in left rear leg, crack at top of front right leg.
