Marked Crolius Stoneware Fragment, New York, New York, c. 1800, from the shoulder of a jug impressed "-ROLIUS/--NUFACTURER/--NHATTAN, WELLS/NEW-YORK," over an incised fish, ht. 3 1/2, wd. 8 in. Provenance: Recovered from an excavation in lower Manhattan; Collection of Joel and Betty Schatzberg. Note: This piece is significant as it links the often seen incised fish motif on New York-attributed pottery directly with Crolius.
