Attributed to John Hughes (British, 1806-1880) Portrait of the Vessel Mary O'Brien of Thomaston, Maine Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 in., in a molded giltwood frame, sold together with some documentation relating to the Mary O'Brien, a parallel rule and a cane owned by Captain Vesper, and a framed photograph of the captain. Condition: Relined, retouch to edges, one large spot in bow of vessel, other small spots. Provenance: This painting was acquired through auction from the original family in Thomaston, Maine, of a Captain Vesper, who was a partner with the shipbuilder Edward O'Brien in ownership of the ships "Mary O'Brien" and "Edward O'Brien."
