Black-painted Sack-back Windsor Chair, c. 1760-80, with unusually high back above oval seat and boldly turned base, ht. 43 1/4, seat ht. 18 in. Note: An old note handwritten on a card affixed with nails to the underside of the seat reads: "M.A. Tolman Portland, Maine." Estimate $800-1,200 missing part of one handhold, worn smooth at the loss.
