British School, 19th Century Animated River Landscape with Figures and Cattle Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 27 x 39 1/4 in. (68.5 x 99.5 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure. Provenance: A Virginia collection. Estimate $1,200-1,800 The lining is adhered with wax and a solid support seems to be included between the old and new canvases. There are four repaired/retouched tears (see UV images for size/locations). There are scattered dashed of retouch, primarily to areas of craquelure. Craquelure is stable. There are several faint pentimenti visible, primarily at the tops of the trees.
