Joseph Benjamin Davol (American, 1864-1923) In the Surf Signed "Davol. " l.r., titled on a presentation plaque. Oil on canvas, 17 1/4 x 21 in. (43.7 x 53.4 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, craquelure. Estimate $800-1,200 Craquelure is subtle, stable, and oriented vertically. There are about a dozen pinpoint-sized dots of retouch scattered along the top edge of the composition, just below the lip of the frame. Frame dimensions are 24 x 28 in. Frame stamped Guido Studios, Boston.
