Attributed to Agapit Stevens (Belgian, 1849-1917) An Innocent Rose Titled in Dutch and signed faintly "... Roos.../Stevens" on the reverse, attributed on a note affixed to the back of the frame. Oil on academy board, 11 5/8 x 9 1/4 in. (29.5 x 23.5 cm), framed. Condition: Varnish discoloration, tack holes and wear to the corners of the board, surface grime, brown paper tape along bottom edge of the reverse. N.B. A note tacked to the frame states that the inscription on the back is written in a Dutch dialect and translates the title to An Innocent Rose. Estimate $500-700 Frame bears a label from John M. Chandler, Boston, and measures 21 3/8 x 19 1/4 in.
