HARRY BERTOIA (1915 - 1978) Untitled sculpture (Tree), Bally, PA, 1960s; Brass over steel; Unmarked; 10" x 13 1/2" x 5 1/2"; Provenance: The Estate of John J. Slocum, Harold Brown Villa, Newport RI; Certificate of authenticity from Val Bertoia available; Mr. Slocum was appointed by President Reagan to the Presidential Cultural Property Advisory Committee, and was also a Trustee Emeritus of the Archaeological Institute of America. He was a professional investment advisor as owner of Slocum, Gordon & Co, and a respected scholar/collector whose medieval crusader coins were sold in a single-owner sale at SothebyÕs, London in 1997. He donated what's considered to be the definitive James Joyce collection to the Beinecke Rare Book Library at Yale in 1951, as well as an Ezra Pound collection in 1983. This sculpture sat on John Slocum's desk in his Bellevue Ave. home from when it was first purchased until his estate was liquidated in 2018. USA
