Signed indistinctly l.r., titled, signed and dated ".../'45/John Shayne/N.Y.C." on the reverse, also inscribed, initialed, and dated "N35 JS '63/H.C. Christy Painting" and with a newspaper clipping about Christy's estate affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvasboard, 11 3/4 x 15 3/4 in., framed. Condition: Surface grime. N.B. The subject of this painting, Howard Chandler Christy (American, 1872-1952) was a prominent illustrator and painter.
