American, mid-20th century. A sculptural alligator form table or desk lamp of molded Bakelite, the stylized alligator on four legs with body of serpentine shape with scale back and tail, with head and tail extending off the ovular wooden plinth, the reptile's head with red glass faceted eyes and mouth gaping open to expose a red light bulb in place of tongue, the base with an arched Baekelite form to side of alligator with a swiveling cover that opens to expose a metal lined cylindrical opening, possibly an inkwell or tobacco/ snuff box. Overall approximately 6" tall, 15" wide, 7.5" deep.
