Folio, 19 numbered pages, [1] register; large engraved vignette on title, illustrated with a folding map of the Mississippi River, and two very fine large text engravings of Native American scenes; rare, no copies of the folio edition in the auction records; bound in a modern marbled paper wrapper; text leaves chipped, folded, somewhat worn, with losses to blank margins on last two leaves, 13 1/4 x 8 3/4 in. The Father Marquette and Louis Jolliet were the first Europeans to explore and map the Mississippi River; the present is an illustrated account of their 1673 expedition, with the map.
