Second issue of this early map of the Americas, first published in 1554; this issue with "Peru" inscribed horizontally, woodcut map on laid paper, formerly folded, contemporary brown ink inscription place name added, "Virginia"; this map made its first appearance in Lopez de Gomara's La Historia Generale de las Indias it was also issued in Levinus Apollonius's De Peruviae Regionis , likely the source of this copy; tacked to a mat with archival tape, 8 1/8 x 5 1/2 in. This rare early map of the Americas is notable for its many coastal place names.
