Luce, built in 1851, departed New Bedford 31 October 1851, returned 17 July 1854, publisher's limp paper covers, leather spine, fulfilled in a contemporary hand, 6 3/4 x 4 in. Printed during the peak of New Bedford whaling, this exhaustive list gives detailed insight into all of the gear, tools, supplies, provisions, raw materials and equipment required for the journey. The printed text has been supplemented throughout, with quantities of supplies added by hand. Other amendments to the text reflect material already on hand or unnecessary for Captain Luce's purposes. Everything from pots and pans, to tarpaulin hats, monkey jackets, sails, paint, rivets, fish hooks, soup plates, blubber forks, rum, and more.
