(French, 1908-1986) Liliom , 1933 oil on canvas signed B. Lorjou and dated (lower right) 79 x 86 1/2 inches. Exhibited: Salon des Independants, Paris, January, 1935 Literature: Shibanuma, Junko, Lorjou , p.188 (illustrated). Note: Liliom , or Le Cique, is named after the 1909 Hungarian play and the famous 1934 Fritz Lang movie bearing the same name. The 1945 musical Carousel written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein is an adaptation of the play. The work is in good basic condition; under UV isolated area of retouch to left edge of canvas. Framed: 82 1/2 x 91 inches.
