Diego Rivera (Mexican, 1886-1957) pastel and carbon on paper depicting a seated semi-nude woman. Framed under plexiglass and signed "Diego Rivera" to the lower left hand corner. Gilt frame measures 25" in height by 21" in width with the sight image measuring 19-1/2" in height by 15-1/4" in width. All measurements are approximate. This piece comes complete with a signed Certificate of Authenticity from the artist dated 1955 establishing that he created this original piece in 1939. Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez, known as Diego Rivera (Mexico, 1886-1957) was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. Rivera became a prominent Mexican painter, with his large frescoes helping to establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican art. Between 1922 and 1953, he painted murals among others in Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, & New York City. In 1931, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Following a prolific career and tempestuous love life, Rivera died on November 24, 1957.
