Carved jade Chinese stamp with the figure of a Milu, also known as Père David's deer. A corded tassel with a wooden bead is wound around the deer's antlers. Carved Chinese characters on the side of the base and the rubber of the seal possibly indicate the artist or original owner. Tests as jade. Measures 4" in height and square base measures 2-1/4" on each side. Weighs 13.48 ozt. All measurements are approximate. In overall good condition consistent with age.The Milu is an endangered species and an auspicious symbol of Imperial power in China dating back over 2,000 years.
