American, 20th century. A pair of striking and unusual birdcage form Windsor armchairs, the oversized elongated backs comprising curved spindles joined by a birdcage crest, the five central spindles overlapping the crest, the two outer spindles overlapping the conforming lower rail, the barrel back terminating in curved arms with scrolled hand rests over the molded seat, all raised on four splayed turned legs with ring turnings over feet and joined by four turned stretchers. Approximate height 54", width 26", depth 18.5", seat to floor 18".
