French Ormolu Mantel Clock with "Coup Perdu" Escapement, France, c. 1800, engine-turned bezel surrounding the enamel roman numeral dial with outer minute ring and inner seconds ring, blued-steel hour, minute, and center seconds hands, fully gilt case with two Doric columns supporting the clock drum, all on a raised plinth with four flattened ball feet, eight-day time and strike movement with pinwheel "coup perdu" escapement on the back plate, regulated by a temperature compensating nine-rod grid iron pendulum with a reverse knife-edge suspension, ht. 20 in. Note: The "coup perdu" escapement allows a clock with a half-second pendulum to advance the second hand in full seconds.
