James Deakin & Sons (England (Sheffield), 1866-1940), circa 1886-1897. A silverplate standish or desk set with glass trumpet vase and two inkwells, the swelled rectangular base raised on four ball feet and decorated with intricate impressed motif, the base mounted at center with a figural horned deer or stag backed by a tree form with reticulated figural leaves mounted at top with a glass trumpet vase etched with grape leaves and bunches, the deer form flanked to either side by removable glass inkwells each with hinged silver plated lids, and with crossed tree trunk forms at back of base as quill or pen rest. Marked to underside of body "James Deakin & Sons, Sheffield, Faudel London, P3578". Overall approximately 15" tall, 9" wide, 6" deep. Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
