British School, 18th Century Portrait of a Gentleman, Possibly James Russell, Fourth Duke of Bedford (1710-1771) Unsigned, inscribed "A. L. Gray" in chalk on the stretcher, and with a label from William Young, Aberdeen, affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 30 x 24 1/2 in. (76.0 x 62.5 cm), framed. Although the sitter is thought to be James Russell, the face and style of wig resemble images of William Russell, First Duke of Bedford, as painted by Edward Lutterell (c. 1650-c. 1725), however the Lutterell work does not portray the sitter in armor.
