Renaissance Revival Overmantel Mirror with Pâte-sur-Pâte Plaque, plaque attributed to Marc Louis Solon, 19th century, arched foliage-topped crest surmounted by an artichoke finial, over a centralized pate-sur-pate plaque of Flora , unsigned, flanked by anthemion, bellflower, and foliate motifs; the mirror framed by fleur-de-lis-topped turned pilasters decorated with ivy leading to flat pilasters toward base and terminating in sculpted corbels, ht. 81 1/2 in. Note: A similar Flora plaque decorated by Marc Louis Solon for M. Rousseau may have been exhibited in the International Exhibition in London in 1862 and is illustrated in Bernard Bumpus, Pâte-sur-Pâte: The Art of Ceramic Relief Decoration, 1849-1992 , fig. 24, pp. 54-55.
