(American, 1785-1851) Mocking Bird. New York: Roe, Lockwood, [circa 1860] Chromolithographed by J. Bien. Plate 138, from Part 3-2. chromolithograph Bien, printr. 45 5/8 x 33 1/4 inches (in frame). A powerful scene in which a rattlesnake attacks the egg-filled nest of the Mocking Bird. Audubon was criticized for this on two points - including that rattlesnakes dont' climb trees - but he was later proven to be accurate on both points. A bit of soft wrinkling in the corners.
