(French, 1710-1777) Les Souhaites de la bone annee, 1746 oil on canvas signed Canot and dated (lower right) 39 x 30 1/4 inches Property from the Collection of Elizabeth D. Remmert, St. Louis, Missouri Provenance: Galerie Voltaire, Paris, France Acquired by the present owner from the above Shows well in natural light. Work appears to be relined. Has been examined under UV light. Appears to have been restoration work throughout the composition but most significantly in the lower portion below figures. There is a small spot that appears to be a repair with inpaint in the center above gentleman (approximately 1 cm x 1 cm). Faces are relatively untouched, though there is a layer of deteriorating varnish which appears milky masking much of the details of the central figure group when viewed under UV light.
