DE LA PEROUSE on the COAST OF TARTARY/ TOGETHER/ With every other Improvement collected from/ Various Navigators and Travellers/ to the present time/ LONDON/ Made & Sold by J&W Cary, Strand, March 1st, 1816, raised on a tripartite base joined by stretchers centered with a glazed circular compass. Height 39 x diameter 24 inches. Note: The English-born cartographer John Cary (1754-1835) served as an apprentice engraver in London until 1783. At that time, along with the help of his brother William, he established his own business and quickly gained recognition for his ability to design thorough maps and globes. His 1787 work, The New and Correct English Atlas, became the standard for English maps. Overall decent, stable, complete condition. Scattered areas of surface wear consistent with age and handling, Areas of repair centered near the northern end of South America and running along the equator.
