late 19th century Capture of the Tritons, after the model by Joachim Kandler, Carl Christoph Punct and Johann Carl Schonheit, bearing a crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, incised C35 and impressed 110 to the underside, raised on an associated gilt bronze base. Height overall 12 3/4 inches. In decent, stable condition overall. Chip to the edge of the base on the back, as well as an area of retouch to the gilt border. Scattered chips to the various plants on the base. Area of loss to one of the lobster's antennae, as well area of surface loss to the glaze on lobster's back. Examination under UV light reveals area of retouch to the hand of the infant within the net. Minor accretions of grime and dust throughout, particularly in the recesses. The associated gilt bronze base with an even, fairly bright patina; one of the holes on the openwork base appears to have been created with a drill.
