consisting of a five oval pendant stations containing a near white chalcedony base inlaid with malachite, jasper, lapis lazuli and agate depicting butterflies in flight, the plaques surrounded by numerous round cabochon cut carnelian and joined with a double strand of yellow gold and polychrome enamel acanthus leaf and flower basket motif chain in a swag design. Stamp: (Maker's mark). Accompanied by a fitted case. 26.90 dwts. The necklace measures approximately 16 7/8 inches long when measured straight across the top chain line. There are scattered points of enamel loss to a few of the links that are not easily noticable due to the small size of the enameled areas. There are no signs of stone loss to the pietra dura plaques. The largest plaque has cracking on the reverse but it does not seem to penetrate to the front, it measures approximately 52.00 x 44.00 mm and has two spots on the reverse that may be evidence or older repair. The gold and stone surfaces have scattered superficial scratches that are not easily eye visible but are associated with age and wear.
