US Springfield M 1899 Krag-Jorgensen Carbine, 30-40 Krag, 22" barrel length, SN 229141. The left side of the receiver is marked “U.S. Model 1899. Springfield Armory 229141”. The left side of the barrel band is marked “U” and the left side of the scaled pop-up rear sight base is marked “C”. There is a circled “P” proof mark on the stock behind the trigger guard and the left side of the stock is marked with a boxed having illegible markings above the trigger. Measures approximately 41-1/2" in total length.The Krag–Jørgensen is a repeating bolt action rifle designed by the Norwegians Ole Herman Johannes Krag and Erik Jørgensen in the late 19th century. It was adopted as a standard arm by Denmark, the United States of America and Norway. About 300 were delivered to Boer forces of the South African Republic.
