American School, Early 20th Century The Chain Bridge, Amesbury, Massachusetts Unsigned. Watercolor on paper, 21 1/4 x 16 1/2 in. (sight), matted and framed. Condition: Minor tape residue l.r., not examined out of frame. Note: The 225-foot single-span suspension bridge spans the Merrimack River between Newburyport and Amesbury, Massachusetts. The current bridge was completed in 1910 at the site of two previous bridges; a timber-arch truss bridge which existed between 1792 and 1810, and a wrought-iron chain suspension bridge built in 1810. The current bridge, the subject of this painting, replaced the chain suspension bridge in 1909.
