Japanese, 20th century. Oblong covered lacquered box with deep red exterior hand painted on border with stylized flowers and leaves amid elongated C scrolls in blue, red and gold surrounding top with figural scene of an older bearded man riding on a flying crane to two figures under stylized pine trees near spotted antlered deer. Landscape with serpentine lines, cloud scrolls at top and rocky outcroppings. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 5", width 13.5", depth 8.25".
