Maurice Esteve (France, 1904 – 2001) lithographic print “Berlougane” (1956), signed and dated lower right in the print, and single matted and framed under glass in gold tone frame. Has a framed height of 25-1/2" and width of 29-1/2", and with a sight image height of 17-3/4" with width of 21-3/4". In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate.Estève was a French abstract painter. His family moved to Paris in 1913. He began to move away from realism in 1928, and was influenced by Léger, Matisse and Bonnard. His paintings of the 1950s and 1960s are abstract and based on bright combinations of areas of color ranging in shape from simple geometric forms to round amorphous outlines. The essence of the work is in the emotional force produced by the impact of the brightly-colored contrasting shapes. By the 1960s Estève had achieved wide international recognition. In 1954 he took part in the Venice Biennale. In 1956 he had a solo exhibition in Copenhagen and in 1961 an exhibition in Dusseldorf. In 1970 he was awarded the Grand Prix National des Arts, and in 1986 a postage stamp with a reproduction of one of his works was issued in France. In 1987 the Musée Estève was opened in Bourges in France. Estève’s works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, the Saatchi collection and many other private collections. His works have sold at Sotheby’s and other major auction houses around the world.Provenance:Framed by Milton A. B
